Discover Benissa
Tucked away on Spain’s stunning Costa Blanca, between the bustling tourist centers and the serene mountains, lies Benissa – a hidden gem that has preserved its authentic Spanish soul while embracing the natural beauty that surrounds it. Often called “La Bella Durmiente” (The Sleeping Beauty), Benissa offers a tranquil escape where historic charm meets Mediterranean splendor, creating the perfect backdrop for wellness, adventure, and cultural discovery.
Discover Benissa’s Dual Personality: Historic Town & Pristine Coast
The Historic Quarter: A Step Back in Time
Wander through Benissa’s meticulously preserved Old Town, where cobblestone streets wind between 15th-century stone houses, baroque churches, and hidden plazas. The Iglesia Puríssima Xiqueta, with its striking neo-Gothic architecture, stands as the town’s spiritual and architectural centerpiece. Unlike more commercialized coastal towns, Benissa’s historic center remains authentically Spanish, with family-run tapas bars, artisan shops, and the gentle pace of traditional life.
The Costa: Calas & Crystal Waters
Benissa boasts 4 kilometers of spectacular coastline featuring some of the region’s most beautiful hidden coves (calas). Cala Baladrar, Cala Advocat, Cala Bassetes, and Cala Fustera offer pristine beaches with transparent waters, framed by pine-covered cliffs. These protected coves provide intimate swimming spots, excellent snorkeling, and a sense of discovery away from crowded tourist beaches.

Walking & Hiking: From Coastal Paths to Mountain Trails
Coastal Walking Routes
The Marina Alta Greenway passes through Benissa, offering a flat, accessible path perfect for leisurely walks or cycling along the coast. For more dramatic scenery, the coastal path connecting Benissa’s calas provides breathtaking sea views and access to secluded beaches. The Ruta de los Acantilados (Cliff Route) offers moderate hiking with spectacular vantage points over the Mediterranean.
Mountain & Countryside Trails
Inland from the coast, Benissa’s landscape transforms into the Sierra de Bernia mountains, crisscrossed with ancient trails used by shepherds and merchants. The PR-CV 147 route takes hikers through almond and olive groves, past traditional farmhouses (known as “riuraus”), and offers panoramic views of both sea and mountains. These trails vary from gentle countryside walks to more challenging mountain routes, all marked and maintained.
